Speaking of flashbacks, those buildings far in the background exist for real. They are based on a place I saw many years ago. The landscape reflects the atmosphere of the place.

That's a wonderful view!

And the landscape is very beautiful too!

The Wastelands were partly inspired by a record cover, but especially this one is mixed with landscapes from memories.

I really like the atmosphere of this page. It reminds me of the southwestern deserts in the United States.

Interesting, as I've never been there, but at least I have seen photos and images in movies. Like australia or mars, the flat, red landscape is even impressive in pictures. A more obvious influence is the cover of the only album by CA Quintet "Trip Thru Hell". ( Progressive Rock) Most influental to the atmosphere of the pic are the landscape and ruins of Ani I saw very long ago for real. The place should be world heritage, but it was willfully neclected and left to rot for a long time, now I am truly concerned that the new dictator and the fanatics he supports might destroy the palace in a frenzy of violence like the irreplacable monuments of Palmyra and other places.

Edit: I forgot, another inspiration was a panel of a Crepax comic.

That's absolutely heartbreaking.

I've been at this place only once and very long ago, but it still is kind of haunting. Not only because of the many massacres that took place there, but the buildings (if they still stand) were so impressive and dignified, especially in this hostile enviroment (and heavily armed borders of three countries in sight.)

That is absolutely wild. I know in the Southwest desert looked red because of the sunsets from the wildfires, but I can't imagine the emotion one must feel in an environment like that.

imageThe place that partly inspired me isn't really red, it is the color that came up in my mind mixing many things. Here's an authentic photograph I found in the net that has the closest colors to those I renember.

Oh wow, that is a great photo! Thank you for sharing this. This is the desert that your artwork reminded of: https://blog.ymtvacations.com/hubfs/Blog_Images/Sunset-in-the-Painted-Desert.jpg

Not my photo, but it should give you an idea. I do recall seeing an abandoned adobe building somewhere around there. It's in Arizona.

Thank you, that is the color. I faintly recall I did a photo inside of a building in Ani (it was forbidden) with a disc camera back then. Probably I lost it.

That's too bad. It sounds like it was quite the sight to see.
