The great thing about the amphicar is that it was a serial production and even reasonably priced. You could buy it and use it from the start (also cleaning was a lot of work.)

I can't imagine how much cleaning and other preventative maintenance must've gone into a boat/car.
Saltwater is the most destructive environment on earth.

I happen to live in an area where a lot of roadsalt is used in winter - this did much more damage to my cars then a crash on an icy road.
